ACT Study Tips

This post is aimed specifically at any Junior who is preparing to take the ACT test sometime this March! The ACT may seem intimidating, challenging, and as though it determines the rest of your life. The truth is, the ACT test is a test of TIME. If the tester had all the time in the world, the test would be fairly simple.

The ENGLISH section has 75 questions - 45 minutes
The MATH section has 60 questions - 60 minutes
The READING section has 40 questions - 35 minutes
The SCIENCE section has 40 questions - 35 minutes

The WRITING section will give you a prompt, and you have 30 minutes to answer the prompt.

As a senior, I have already taken the ACT, and here are some of my study and preparation tips for the ACT...

1) Study OUTSIDE of school. Every junior should be given a practice ACT book with a practice test for ALL subjects, and three different versions of each test. DO THEM. It WILL help.

2) Get a good night's sleep the week of the test. I had a friend who fell asleep during the ACT, and they regretted it when they got their score back...
3) Eat a good breakfast. Believe it or not, food does wake your brain up!
4) Stay CALM. This test does not determine how smart you are. This test does not determine the entire rest of your life.
5) Use your time EFFICIENTLY. It will help immensely.
6) DO set a goal for yourself. If the college you want to go to has an ACT range of 21-25, aim for a 26. If the college you want to go to has an ACT range of 28-33, then aim for a 34. Set a high bar for yourself, but just know that if you don't meet your preferred goal, that doesn't mean you're dumb!

Good Luck Juniors!
