Wyoming Middle College: Is it a Gift or a Curse??

Wyoming Middle College is an innovative public school partnership between Wyoming Public Schools and Grand Rapids Community College. This year, WMC was open to 50 sophomores who were invited to be a part of the program. In the near future, this program will be open to other grades that attend Wyoming Public Schools.

A major goal of WMC is to increase access to post secondary opportunities, blurring the line between high school and college and recognizing that a post secondary education is crucial for a person’s independence. With this, the students involved will have to spend an extra year in the district, even after graduation.

Some parents are upset at the fact that their children will have to "stay in high school" while their friends "go off to real college," but in reality it is a good thing; the kids who stay here an extra year will only have to complete 2 years of college to have all of their credits for an Associate's degree. This will allow them to get on the road of success a bit faster than the others who graduate earlier. The GPA needed to be accepted into this program is 2.5 and everyone interested in this program is required to take the ACCUPLACER test, a test given to all GRCC students.
